Ask the Quad is run by Matthew Chriss. This policy says what we collect, why we collect it and who receives it. If you have a question, email support@askthequad.com.
What we collect
From students
- name, school email address, school, year and major
- your PayPal or Venmo handle
- the boxes you tick when you sign up, and the time you ticked them
- the responses you write, and your answer to any follow-up question
- a record of what you have earned and what we have paid you
- whether you want emails about new requests, and which requests we have emailed you about
From founders
- name, email address and company or project name
- the link or file you submit, and your questions
- the boxes you tick when you order, and the time you ticked them
From the open feed waitlist
- your email address
If you ask to be told when orders open
- your email address
What we do not collect
We do not collect card numbers. Stripe takes card payments, and we never see or store your full card details. We do not ask for government ID numbers or dates of birth on this site.
One exception, away from this site: if what we pay a student in a year comes close to the amount we must report to the IRS, we ask that student for a Form W-9, which includes a taxpayer identification number. We keep it only for tax reporting.
Our website
Our site has no analytics or advertising trackers. Like any website, the company that hosts it receives technical details such as your IP address when it sends you a page.
If you sign in to an account, your browser stores a sign-in key so that you stay signed in on that device, and it stores a draft of any answer you are writing until you send it or sign out. We use neither to track you. Signing out removes the key.
If you open a link that carries a founder referral code, your browser stores the code until you place an order, and we record the code on your order. The person the code belongs to learns that an order was placed with it, not who placed it.
If you open a student's sharing link, your browser stores that student's code until you sign up, and we record that they invited you. They are told how many friends have joined through their link, and when one earns them a reward, but not who.
Why we collect it
- to match students to orders
- to deliver feedback to founders
- to pay students
- to contact you about your order or your place on the panel
- to keep the payment records the law expects of a business
Who receives it
- Founders see students' responses without the students' names or email addresses. Each response shows the student's year and major.
- Students who answer an order see the link or file and the questions the founder submitted.
- Stripe processes founders' payments. Stripe tells us when an order has been paid and how much was paid, so that we can start the order.
- Google provides our email, forms and spreadsheets, where sign-ups, orders and payment records are stored.
- Anthropic provides the AI model we use to help write summaries.
- PayPal or Venmo receives a student's handle and the amount when we send a payout.
- Cloudflare hosts our website. Our forms may also use its Turnstile service to check that a visitor is a person and not a bot. When they do, Cloudflare receives technical details about your browser and connection, such as your IP address.
We may also share information when the law requires us to.
We do not sell personal information.
How we use AI
Students' responses are processed by an AI model to help write the one-page summary. A person checks every summary before it is sent.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you are on the panel or have an order with us, and for up to two years after that. We keep payment records for as long as tax law requires.
Seeing, correcting or deleting your information
Email support@askthequad.com to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it or to have it deleted. We may have to keep some records, such as payments, where the law requires it.
Under 18
Ask the Quad is not directed to anyone under 18. If we learn that we hold information about someone under 18, we delete it.
Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a Do Not Track signal. Our site does not track you across other websites, so it behaves the same whether or not that signal is on. We do not let other companies collect information about your activity on our site to track you across other websites.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we post the new version on this page and change the dates at the top.
